About
Sou Favelado (I’m from the favela) is a blog aimed at tearing down the many negative stereotypes about favelas. Favelas are very colorful and complex communities with many positive attributes that are often misconstrued through media. I hope you leave this blog with a better understanding of favela life, and also a possible desire to visit a favela.

You work is admirable and I am glad you have decide to write about your experiences. The outside world need to know that Favelas are not war zones
and there is so much more then the drugs and violence that the media shows on tv..
I look fprwards to reading about your life in the favela!

Sou favelado tb com muito orgulho!
I am a fellow Gringa living in Rio and while I don’t live in a favela, I am blogging to tear down the overall misleading message that Brazil/Rio is just a violent and dangerous place, and share all the beauty and excitement that I discovered here (and continue to), making me want to return to stay.
Obviously, as well made as they are, the films you’ve mentioned have done a lot to perpetuate this negative message so it’s wonderful to see people like you and Zezinho (I found his site & subscribed last week…glad I did, as it also led me to yours!) sharing your stories…I’m looking forward to reading more.
Abraços!
